Maple Heights -- A man told police March 4 that four men riding in a red Ford Explorer were pulling up near pedestrians walking on Warrensville Center Road shortly before 8:30 p.m. and pointing a black gun at them. The report did not state if the men said anything to the pedestrians.
Police stopped one vehicle matching the description, with four men inside, but no gun was found. No one else reported the incident and no one was injured, police said. Police are investigating.
Petty theft
March 4. Candy allegedly taken: A 19-year-old Maple Heights man was cited for shoplifting after the owner of a Libby Road convenience store told police the man allegedly took three bags of candy totaling $3.37 from the store. The man left the store, but was found a short distance away and identified by the store owner.
Theft
March 6. Sweater, papers taken: A woman told police someone broke into her locked Northfield Road apartment and took an $80 sweater and some income tax papers. Police are investigating.
Identity theft
March 6: Money missing from ATM: A Cleveland woman told Maple Heights police that an unknown person withdrew $350 from her bank account using her identity at a Northfield Road bank. Police are investigating.
Robbery
March 3. Girl alleges
robbery by juveniles: A 17-year-old Maple Heights girl told police her wallet was allegedly taken by a juvenile girl and boy.
The girl told police she was walking on Mapleboro Road around 4:30 p.m. when the girl, wearing a pink jacket and blue jeans, walked up to her and asked if she had any money.
The 17-year-old told police the girl opened her jacket and showed what appeared to be a silver handgun. The victim said she pulled out her wallet, which the girl took, and, with the boy, ran west on Mapleboro Road.
The victim did not have a description of the boy.
Burglary
March 5: Tools taken: A construction worker at a Nitra Avenue home told police someone broke into the the vacant house and took $7,000 worth of various power tools. Police are investigating.
Bird attack
March 1: When birds attack: An Applegate Avenue man called police to help him capture a bird that had gotten into his home. The man said he was trying to get the bird to fly out the door, but it kept "attacking him."
Just before police arrived the man called and said the bird had flown out of the home.
The man did not report any injuries. The bird is still at large.
