Bill and Elsie Balogh of Bedford celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary July 19 at First Hungarian Lutheran Church in Cleveland. They celebrated with a family dinner July 21 in Mansfield, attended by 25 people.
Bill Balogh was born and raised in Cleveland. The former Elsie Oravec was born in Uniontown, Pa. Her family moved numerous times before ultimately settling in northeast Ohio.
They met at First Hungarian Lutheran Church. They had seen each other in church before but each thought the other was married.
They were officially introduced at a church meeting that was intended to start a bowling league. They became engaged in March 1947 and were married four months later.
He was employed at Lear Siegler in Maple Heights for 32 years. His main job was building stators, which is stabilizing parts for helicopters. He now is retired.
She was a homemaker.
They have five children -- Bill (Linda) Balogh of Glendale, Ariz., Dale Balogh of Twinsburg, Sue (Charlie) McKenzie of Mansfield, John Balogh of Garrettsville, Ohio, and Jim (Patti) Balogh of Troy Township, Ohio.
They have nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
They both enjoy sports and avidly follow the Indians and Browns.
The couple attends Lutheran Church of the Covenant in Maple Heights.
