Maple Heights -- A Kato Street woman told police April 18 that she heard children screaming shortly after 10:30 a.m. from a nearby house and a male's voice loudly telling the kids to "get on the floor and give him their money." After police arrived, they discovered an adult in the house was playing "cops and robbers" with the children. The police advised the man to "not be so loud" the next time the group plays. There were no charges filed. Missing license plate April 18. Plate disappears from car: A Bedford woman told police that her rear license plate was on her car when she went into a Warrensville Center Road grocery store at 6:15 p.m. However, the woman said she noticed the plate was gone around 7 p.m. after she had left the store. Police are investigating. Theft from auto April 20. Purse taken from car: A woman told police she placed her purse on the floor of her car while she went into a Libby Road tavern about midnight. The woman said when she returned around 2 a.m., the purse was gone from the locked car. Police could find no signs of forced entry. The woman said the purse contained $400, 12 to 15 CDs worth about $10 each, one cell phone worth $375, another phone worth $150 and various forms of identification. Police are investigating. Damage to property April 21. Brick breaks window: Employees of two nearby businesses told police two juvenile males threw a brick through the front picture window of a Broadway Avenue catering company shortly before 4 p.m. Responding police said there were two juveniles near the scene at the time of the incident. They questioned the two youths, but no arrests have been made. There was no damage estimate listed for the window. Suspicious smell April 21. Spring is in the air: A Raymond Street woman told police she smelled what she thought was a "decaying body" coming from a vacant house. Upon investigating, police found the house was closed and secure. A second neighbor, seeing the police, admitted the foul odor was coming from his yard, where he was using manure as fertilizer. No one was charged. Fraud April 19. Credit card used without permission: A Maple Heights man told police someone used his credit card number and charged $120 in various online goods. The man also contacted his bank, which stopped payment on the still-pending purchases. The report did not specify what purchases were made. The bank is investigating. Disturbance April 17. Four-wheeler complaints: A Stanley Avenue caller told police a juvenile was riding a four-wheeler up and down the street around 1:30 p.m., making a lot of noise. However, when police arrived the rider was gone. Warrant April 18. 'Dead' man is actually counting sheep: A Stafford Park patron called police and reported that a man who was laying on a picnic table "appears dead because he is not moving at all." When police arrived they were not only able to arouse the man, who was napping, but also discovered he had a warrant for his arrest because of $146 worth of unpaid court fines. The 26-year-old Maple Heights man was arrested for failure to pay the fines and later released after paying the fine.
