Hydrant flushing
begins May 1

The Maple Heights Fire Department will begin hydrant flushing throughout the city May 1 from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 4 p.m. weekdays, weather permitting.

If the water is rusty, let it run a short period of time until it is clear.

Kindergarten
sign-up planned

Kindergarten registration is being conducted by appointment in the enrollment office of Maple Heights High School, 5500 Clement Drive, Maple Heights. Sign-up is May 5 through May 9. The child must be age 5 by Sept. 30 to enroll. Registration packets are available at the main entrance of the high school and online at MapleSchools.com. Packets must be completed prior to the appointment.

At least three of the following items are required: Proof of residency, which includes voter registration card, municipal income tax return, driver's license, utility bills, pay vouchers, leases and insurance declaration pages. Also required are birth certificate, Social Security card or number, custody papers, complete immunization record, Ohio driver's license or Ohio ID. Hazardous waste round-up planned

Maple Heights will participate in the Cuyahoga County hazardous waste round-up from April 28 through May 2.

Oil or solvent-based paint, sealers, primers or coatings, varnishes, polyurethanes, shellacs, paint thinner, mineral spirits, terpentine, spray paint, pesticides, caustic household cleaners (oven cleaner, drain cleaner, muriatic acid, etc.), automotive products, adhesives, roof tar, driveway sealer, motor oil, mercury, kerosene, gasoline, lighter fluid, batteries and fluorescent bulbs can be dropped off at the Maple Heights Service Garage, 5501 Dunham Road, Maple Heights, April 28 through May 2 from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Latex paints will not be accepted.

No material will be accepted from businesses and no material will be accepted after these dates.

Slovenian women
meet May 10

The Slovenian Women's Union of Maple Heights will conduct a meeting May 10 at 11:30 a.m. at Maple Heights Regional Library, 5225 Library Lane, Maple Heights.

The guest speaker will be Dr. Joseph Kastelic, a Maple Heights native who prior to retirement was a pediatric hematologist.
