Akron -- A former St. Peter Chanel High School teacher charged with unlawful sexual conduct involving a teen girl could spend up to the next decade in jail. Stephen M. Majercik, of Spinnaker Run in Reminderville, was sentenced April 22 to 10 years in prison and labeled a sex offender, according to Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh. The 59-year-old Majercik pleaded guilty in March to unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, a third-degree felony; six counts of illegal use of a minor in nude material, second-degree felonies; three counts of pandering sexual material involving a minor, second-degree felonies; and sexual battery involving a 14-year-old girl, a third-degree felony, according to Bevan Walsh. Majercik's attorney, Mark Gardner, previously said his client was "owning up to his responsibilities." According to prosecutors, Majercik turned himself in to police Jan. 8 after school officials learned "suspicious information" during a conversation with a student. Reminderville police executed several search warrants on Majercik's home, seizing a computer and allegedly discovering images of children in various stages of nudity. Majercik taught at Chanel for six years. -- From staff reports Comments
