Maple Heights -- The driver of a Maple Heights school bus believes it was a shot by a BB gun that put a small hole in a side window of the bus and then shattered the remaining glass March 18 around 4:30 p.m. No one was injured The driver said she was on Grant Avenue when she "heard a popping sound but did not see or hear anything else" as the glass shattered. While there were an unknown number of students on the bus, the seat adjacent to the broken window was empty. The driver and another aide swept up the glass, but did not find a BB. Police also looked but could not find the BB. School officials estimate the cost to replace the window will be between $200 and $300. Robbery March 18. Woman loses wallet but keeps purse: A 45-year-old Maple Heights woman told police she was walking near Raymond Street and Warrensville Center Road shortly after 3:30 p.m. when a man walked up from behind and tried to grab her purse. The woman was able to keep her grip on the purse. However, she said the man took her wallet from inside the purse. The man allegedly hit the woman on the head with his hand before running from the scene. Paramedics were called but the woman declined transportation to the hospital. Suspicious noises March 18. Noises could mean nutty creatures: An Anthony Street woman told police she heard noises coming from the attic of her home shortly before 3 a.m. Police investigated and found a hole in the roof where "animals may be getting in." There was no sign of any animals. Theft March 15. Man tries to return stolen goods: A Maple Heights man was charged with petty theft after an employee of a Warrensville Center Road home improvement store said he tried to return $249 worth of construction trim material. The employee said he witnessed the man take the items then walk to the return area and try to return them. The man was stopped by employees and held until police arrived. March 16. Trousers, wallet walk away: A Maple Heights Boulevard man told police he woke up shortly before 11 a.m. and found his pants and wallet missing. The man told police he had come home the night before after a night of partying at a local bar and did not know where he left the pants or wallet. Police advised the man to search his home for the missing items. The pants and wallet, with an undisclosed amount of cash, are still missing. March 19. Storm windows whisked away: A Rochelle Avenue woman told police that over the past month, four of her outside storm windows have been taken. The woman said she did not know the value of the windows. Police are investigating the incident. Burglary March 14. Cash, phone taken: A Granger Avenue woman told police she came home after being gone for two hours and found her rear door open. She also found $300 and a cell phone missing from inside the home. The woman told police she remembered locking the door before she left. Police found no signs of forced entry. Disturbance March 15. Man skips out on taxi fee: A driver for a local taxi company called police after his fare left him sitting in his idling car for more than 10 minutes shortly after 1 a.m. The driver said he picked up the vanishing fare in downtown Cleveland. The man asked the driver to take him to an address on Mednota Avenue. The man got out and said he would be back but disappeared. Police officers found footprints in the snow around the address where the man was dropped off. The prints led police away from the home, but police did not find the fare. The driver was left with a $35 bill. Comments
