Police News: Maple Heights woman given fake money order

Maple Heights -- A 51-year-old Maple Heights woman was turned away from a Warrensville Center Road check cashing business Feb. 5 after employees told her the $850 money order she was trying to cash was fake.

Police did not charge the woman, who said the money order was given to her by a friend she met online.

The woman said the friend told her she won some money and needed to cash a money order. After it was cashed, the woman was to send the cash to Cambodia.

Police are not investigating.

Burglary

Feb. 1. Plumbing pipes taken: The owner of a vacant Beech Avenue home told police someone took the copper plumbing pipes from two sinks in the basement. The man did not have an estimate for the missing pipes.

Theft from auto

Feb. 1. Catalytic converters taken: A Lee Road woman told police someone cut the catalytic converters from two cars that were parked in her driveway. The woman did not list a price for the missing converters.

Feb. 2. Hub cap taken: A Hillgrove Avenue woman told police that a $100 hub cap was missing from the front passenger side of her SUV which was parked at her residence at the time.

Feb. 5. Tools taken: A Theodore Street man told police that someone broke a rear vent window on his truck and took a small bag of hand tools and a small black and white television.

The man did not give a damage estimate for the window.

The man said someone also "defecated" on the side stoop of his home.

Feb. 6. Television taken from car: A Maplewood Avenue man told police someone broke into his car while it was parked in his driveway and took a black and white television. The man did not list a damage estimate for the broken window.

Vandalism

Feb. 7. Beverage machine burgled: The owner of a Lee Road gas station told police someone vandalized the money slot of an outside soda machine. The owner said the money slot was pulled off and there was no paper money left in the machine. The gas station manager did not list how much money was taken. There was no soda reported missing.
