Program focuses
The next Bedford Historical Society Lyceum program is Feb. 1 at 8 p.m. The subject will be "The Taylor Chair Company -- then and now." It will be in the community room in the Old Church on the Square, 750 Broadway Ave., Bedford. Lynn Jones, a historical society member, will discuss the history of the Taylor Chair Company, the oldest furniture manufacturing company in the Western Reserve. Lyceum programs are free and open to everyone. Refreshments are served after the program. For information, call 440-232-0796. Pancake benefit supports Harvest for Hunger Residents can support the Harvest for Hunger program Feb. 20 from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. at International House of Pancakes, 22707 Rockside Road, Bedford. Guests can receive a free short stack of buttermilk pancakes, a $4.49 value in return for a donation for Harvest for Hunger. Funds collected will assist in supporting food pantries and soup kitchens across 19 Northeast Ohio counties. Low cost spay/neuter
The Citizens for Humane Animal Practices, in cooperation with the Summit County Department of Animal Control, will offer low cost spay/neuter clinics for cats at the NEFCO Building, 180 E. South St. in downtown Akron on the following dates: March 17, April 7, May 5 and June 2. All spay/neuter services will be provided at the rate of $35 for male cats and $45 for female cats. The next meeting of the Maple Heights Civil Service Commission will be Feb. 5 at 5:30 p.m. on the second floor of City Hall in the old Council Chambers. Anyone who needs special accommodations due to disability should call 216-587-9008 at least 48 hours prior to the meeting. Bedford seeking names of residents in military Bedford officials are looking for names of residents currently enlisted in the military to display on a list inside City Hall, 165 Center Road, Bedford.
